Gulf Shores Fishing: Your Private Inshore Adventure

Ready to wet a line in the rich waters of Gulf Shores? Our private inshore charters are perfect for anglers looking to squeeze in some quality fishing time, whether you've got a couple hours or half a day to spare. From the crack of dawn to late afternoon, we've got flexible departure times to fit your schedule. Hop aboard our well-equipped boat and let's chase some of the Gulf's most exciting inshore species. With our seasoned crew at the helm, you're in for a real treat – Jack Crevalle pulling drag, Redfish tailing in the shallows, and maybe even a doormat Flounder if luck's on our side.

What's the Fishing Like?

Picture this: you're cruising through the picturesque waters off Gulf Shores, rod in hand, anticipation building. Our inshore trips are all about variety and action. One minute you might be sight-casting to Redfish in skinny water, the next you're working a popper for aggressive Jack Crevalle. We'll hit productive spots where Black Drum hang out near structure, and drift flats where Speckled Trout are known to school up. And don't even get me started on the Spanish Mackerel blitzes – when they're on, it's non-stop action that'll have your arms aching (in the best way possible). Whether you're a seasoned angler or it's your first time holding a rod, our crew's got the know-how to put you on fish and make sure you're having a blast doing it.

Rods, Reels, and Tactics

We've got all the gear you need, from light tackle setups for finesse fishing to beefier combos when the big boys are biting. Depending on what's running, we might start off throwing soft plastics for trout, then switch to live bait for redfish. If the jacks are busting bait on the surface, we'll break out the topwater lures for some heart-pounding strikes. Bottom fishing with cut bait? You bet – that's how we'll target those tasty Black Drum and Flounder. And here's a pro tip: when the Spanish Mackerel are around, nothing beats trolling small spoons or Clark Spoons. We'll mix up our techniques based on the conditions and what's biting, keeping things interesting and upping your chances of a cooler full of fish.

Top Catches This Season

Our anglers have been crushing it lately! Just last week, we had a father-son duo from Tennessee absolutely slay the Redfish – they must've caught and released over a dozen fish, with the biggest pushing 30 inches. A couple days before that, a group of friends got into a school of Jack Crevalle that had their drags screaming. And let's not forget about Mrs. Johnson from Mobile who landed her personal best Speckled Trout – a real gator at 24 inches. The fishing's been hot, and we're excited to get you out there to make some memories of your own.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Spanish Mackerel: These speedsters are the sprinters of the Gulf. They're here in force from late spring through fall, and they're a blast on light tackle. Spanish Mackerel are known for their blistering runs and acrobatic jumps. They travel in schools, so when you find them, it's often fast and furious action. Plus, they make for some mighty fine eating if you're looking to bring home dinner.

Southern Flounder: Ah, the doormat of the sea. These flatfish are masters of camouflage, blending in perfectly with the sandy bottom. Flounder fishing requires finesse and patience, but the reward is worth it. They're most active in the cooler months, especially during their fall migration. A big flounder on the line feels like you're reeling in a dinner plate, and they're absolutely delicious on the table.

Black Drum: These bruisers are the unsung heroes of inshore fishing. They might not be the prettiest fish in the sea, but boy, can they pull! Black Drum hang around structure and are suckers for crabs or shrimp. The bigger ones, which we affectionately call "Big Uglies," can top 50 pounds. They're here year-round, but the fishing really heats up in the spring and fall.

Sea Trout (Speckled Trout): If there's a bread-and-butter inshore species, it's the Speckled Trout. These spotted beauties are a favorite among light tackle enthusiasts. They're known for their subtle bite and their tendency to school up, meaning when you find one, you've often found many. The "gator" trout (the big ones) are prized catches, and they're at their peak in the cooler months.

Redfish: Last but certainly not least, the mighty Red Drum. These copper-colored fighters are the poster child of inshore fishing in the Gulf. They're here all year, but the bull reds (the big ones over 27 inches) show up in force during their fall spawn. Sight-fishing for tailing reds in shallow water is about as exciting as it gets. And let me tell you, when a big red takes off on a run, you better hold on tight!

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

It's not just about the fish – though that's a big part of it. Our trips are all about giving you a real taste of Gulf Shores fishing. We're not just guides, we're locals who live and breathe these waters. Want to know the best spot for seafood after your trip? We've got you covered. Curious about the history of the area? We love sharing stories. And let's be honest, there's something special about being out on the water, away from the hustle and bustle, just you and nature (and hopefully a bunch of fish). Whether you're looking to bend a rod, learn new techniques, or just enjoy a day on the Gulf, we're here to make it happen.

Time to Book Your Spot

So, what do you say? Ready to experience some of the best inshore fishing Gulf Shores has to offer? Whether you've got a couple hours to spare or want to make a half-day of it, we've got a trip that'll fit the bill. Our private charters mean it's just you and your group – no sharing the boat with strangers. Bring your fishing buddy, your family, or come solo and let's chase some fish. The Gulf is calling, and the bite is on. Don't miss out on your chance to create some lasting memories and maybe even catch the fish of a lifetime. Give us a call or book online – we can't wait to get you out on the water!

Learn more about the species

Black Drum

Speckled Trout, or Specks as we call 'em, are a staple of inshore fishing here. These silvery fish with dark spots usually run 14-20 inches and put up a nice fight on light tackle. You'll find them in grass flats, around oyster bars, and near drop-offs. They like moving water, so fishing the tide changes can be productive. Fall and spring are great seasons, but you can catch them year-round. Specks are aggressive feeders and will hit both live bait and artificial lures. Try a popping cork rig with live shrimp for consistent action. They're also excellent eating fish with delicate, flaky meat. One tip: On calm mornings, look for subtle surface disturbances. That could be specks feeding on bait, and a well-placed topwater lure can lead to some exciting strikes.

Black Drum

Redfish

Southern Flounder are ambush predators that lie flat on the bottom, waiting to pounce on unsuspecting prey. They typically run 15-20 inches and 2-5 pounds, though bigger ones aren't uncommon. You'll find them on sandy or muddy bottoms in bays, estuaries, and around inlets. Fall is prime time as they migrate to spawn offshore. Flounder fishing takes patience - a slow retrieve with a live bait or soft plastic is key. When you feel that distinctive thump, give them a moment before setting the hook. These flatfish put up a unique fight, using their broad bodies to resist. They're also some of the best eating fish out there, with sweet, flaky white meat. Local tip: Look for flounder around drop-offs or structure changes on the bottom. They love to hide just off these edges.

Redfish

Sea Trout

Spanish Mackerel are speed demons of the sea, often found in large schools chasing bait near the surface. These sleek, silvery fish usually run 2-4 pounds but can get up to 12. Look for them around inlets, piers, and just offshore, especially during their spring and fall migrations. They're aggressive and will hit just about any shiny lure you throw. Trolling with small spoons or jigs is a great way to locate a school. Once you find them, it can be non-stop action. Spanish Macks put up a fast, zippy fight and make excellent table fare when eaten fresh. They're also fun to watch as they sky out of the water chasing bait. Pro tip: Always use a wire leader - those razor-sharp teeth will slice through mono in a heartbeat.

Sea Trout

Southern Flounder

Black Drum are the big cousins of redfish, and they can get huge - we're talking 90 pounds or more. Most of what we catch are in the 5-30 pound range though. You'll find them in brackish waters and estuaries, often around oyster beds or mudflats. They use those powerful jaws and teeth to crush shellfish, so fresh crab makes great bait. Spring is prime time when they school up to spawn. Black Drum make a distinctive croaking sound, which is pretty cool to hear. They put up a stubborn fight, especially the bigger ones. For eating, stick to the smaller fish under 15 pounds - the meat gets tough in the big boys. Here's a local trick: If you see ripples on a calm flat that look like it's raining, it might be a school of drum feeding. Sneak up quietly and you could be in for some great action.

Southern Flounder

Spanish Mackerel

Redfish are a favorite target around here, and for good reason. These copper-colored beauties usually run 20-30 inches and put up a great fight. You'll find them in shallow water, often just 1-4 feet deep, hanging around oyster beds, grass flats, and mangroves. Fall is prime time as they school up for spawning. Redfish are known for their distinctive black spot near the tail - a neat trick to fool predators. They're not picky eaters, so live bait or artificial lures both work well. Try a gold spoon or topwater plug early in the morning for some exciting strikes. Redfish make for excellent table fare too, with a mild, sweet flavor. One local tip: Look for "tailing" reds in really shallow water, where their backs and tails break the surface as they feed. It's a sight that'll get your heart racing!
